Did it come back my itself or did you hard reboot it? I can make Safari crash all the time when emptying the cache. Now I just use Safari Enhancer to keep the cache disabled.

it wasn't just safari that crashed. the whole system was hung up, and after 15 minutes, i had to do a hard restart
