ok, so I'm using safari. and to increase productivity I started to use tab browsing... but one thing I cannot figure out is this, the shortcut to move to the next tab.... it has a strange up arrow apple command and a narrow right arrow... what does the bold up arrow mean?

The upward pointing arrow that looks like a house is the shift key. Likewise, the carat shape, (this: ^), is for control, and option is the one that looks like the escalator logo you may see in shopping centres, (well, that's the case here anyway).
