screen saver problem

I have the screen saver set so that when I put the mouse in a corner it goes on, but now the screen goes black like it's going on but then the black goes away and the screen has the normal stuff. I tried to change the setting, but System preferences crashes when I click on the screen saver tab. Any ideas what I can do?

    nevermind. i just restarted my computer and it's fine now.
