****ing Office 2k won't open Mac Office files right

I stayed up an extra three hours last night thanks to M$. I saved a simple 3 pages document with a few charts from Excel, and when I opened it later on the PC the charts showed up as images with "X"s in them, like when pictures don't load in Internet Exploiter. How can people pay hundreds of dollars for crap like this. The PC had Office 2000. WTF is going on here?
