World of Warcraft beta
For those who may be interested, World of warcraft beta signups are happening this week. With the relatively small mac gaming community, im guessing we will have an easier time getting in than our PC cousins.

On a sidenote, check out the specs!
My 1 and 1/2 year old dual 1ghz MDD is minimum spec!
Meanwhile a 4/5 year old 800 mhz p3 with half the ram will do just fine! Ouch!
Oh yeah, note that panther is a must as well...

I really want to get in, I think that being a mac-user might give us an advantage, as blizzard has always been known for excellent mac support, and they are likely to get a 3:1 ratio(at least) of windows:mac applicants, and they'll likely want more.
or am I just dreaming
either way, the game looks great, blizzard makes QUALITY games, first and foremost, while SOE(who currently OWNS the MMOG industry) has been very dissapointing(planetside, while awesome was NOT quality, Galaxies, while awesome was NOT quality)
The game play video that you can download for WoW doesn't compare to that of EQ2.
But then, I loathe SOE...
I have played a lot of Everquest and was wondering how it compares?

I am sorry to say that the graphics look like crap compared to Everquest 2. I have ditched my PC since last October (when I purchased my iMac), but I might be tempted to build a gaming rig to play EQ2. WoW needs a serious facelift. I don't see anything different from DaoC or Shadowbane (except for graphics).

EQ2 looks like dogshit.
I love Blizzard's cartoony WarCraft graphics. EQ2 is attempting to look life-like and failing miserably.

I too like Blizzard's non-realistic style, but why does it need a 64MB graphics card? Damn you, GeForce 420 Go!
I suppose it's because the game makes use of many textures...some of which are pretty large.

If you dont have exposure to PVP, it is not a good game to start PVP with. The graphics is a few steps backward from EQ. I would recommend Dark Age of Camelot instead for a balance.

The initial theaterical videos of EQ2 look bad. There is a video on the website with in-game footage. Try that one. EQ2 is showing a group of one fighting a dragon in Cazic Thule with spectacular graphic and sound effects. Look at the realism in environmental textures and the lighting effects on the player / non player characters.
The World of Warcraft game footage shows people fighting a big wolf --- very similar to the mid level dungeons in Midguard in Dark Age of Camelot.
I agree I am ignorant about WoW; but I don't think it has the content or the eye-candy that keeps you attracted to role playing games.

Is that out for OS X? or PC only?

It's just the Warcraft graphics style. I fully realize that some prefer the more realistic look but it wouldn't be Warcraft if it didn't have strong, bright cartoony colors, and surreal-looking buildings.
People love Diablo and people love Warcraft. They're very well established games and the Warcraft graphics style is well known. Combining elements of the two into a MMORPG is, IMO, a winning combination. I don't think WoW will have any trouble attracting these people to role playing games.
Out of all the games that have been released recently and will be released in the future, WoW and Doom 3 are the *only* games that look interesting to me. And I'm *extremely* picky about game quality.
I'm not really sure you've actually seen lots of WoW in-game footage. I think you probably made up some conclusions after seeing 1 or 2 videos. I suggest you go back and take a look at other videos, screenshots or beta-tester stories.
Look at the original Diablo. Almost all of the point releases had to do with updating against server hacks for the online game. The game was solid from day 1 at 1.0. Not many game creators have this kind of history.
