(Not trying to introduce a competing site; just trying to let the Elite HW Speculators here (and only here) on Apple Insider: The Tyranosaurus of Apple-Interest Web Sites have a go at this topic.

Gee, what OTHER OS could Palm go to for its PDAs?

Have at it, Tyranosauri/Tyranosauruses!

Well, Palm OS 6 did blow right past the last deadline I'd heard for it (this past summer)...

Moving to Digital Hub, where the tyrannosaurs accessorize.

Didn't they buy Be? Why in the world would they be looking for another OS? What they ought to do is license Mac OS 9 from Apple

Palm bought Be, however, what has happened since then is that Palm has split into PalmSource (which codes the OS and support software) and palmOne (which builds and ships hardware).

What this is talking about is palmOne (the hardware company) considering building units which will boot an OS other than PalmOS.

    Exactly. "other than PalmOS."

I'm half watching 'Ghost Busters' right now and I'm trying not to get all excited about this article (which could be complete, total BS) like the Dan Akroyd character. "A full torso apparition! And it's real!"

anyone notice today's macfixit, where someone got a reply from palm that they were not supporting the mac os starting with panther and onward? just curious if this was in reference JUST to palm desktop (which was claris organizer carbon-ified), or if it is a true "see you later" gesture, where they're turning the responsibility over to apple to support the palms with isync, ical et al.

Palm should use the Linux based OpenPDA platform/OS like Sharp do with their Zaurus'. I have a brief play with a Zaurus the other day and it was awesome.

Well the Zaurus uses Qtopia, which has a Mac OS X version of Qtopia Desktop so the Mac should be supported. There's no reason to say Palm couldn't modify their current software to support the new platform anyway.
