I have a source (who wants to remain competely anonomous, because of the top secret nature of this project and the fact that he could loose his job, etc.) who told me about a knew piece of hardware apple is working on. Apparantly they are devising a devise that will be able to attatch to your T.V. and record all your favorite shows, as well as allow you to access your email ON YOUR TV. This just blew me away!!! COMPUTER PLUS TV!!!! It is code named "The Apple i".

The Apple I? That's already been released. It's priced at $666 but doesn't come with a case. It doesn't use hard disk or optical drives either, but a special technique allowing you to store data using your existing audio system. I'm not clear how you can record your favorite shows with it, but you can definitely read and write email using your TV as the screen.

In fact, this hardware has been out for quite some time...

is that what you have been trying to show us?

please tell me this is a joke. that's an apple sticker on...i don't know what the heck that is...something from the discovery channnel store? one of those mini van der graph generators. who knows?!

i will admit though that that is a pretty cool looking picture [disregarding the blatent apple sticker], since the whole picture is in grayscale while the electricity is in color. +1 for the image, -10 for the "new apple hardware."

You can almost do it on EyeHome + EyeTV. Well, can't access email, but you can surf your bookmarks in Safari.

I don't think there has been a thread like this in Future Hardware for a very long time.

All that's missing is 'CONFIRMED!' somewhere in the original post.

EyeHome + EyeTV are confirmed project, but something similar to that from Apple, is probably not going to be there.

That was pretty funny. Waste of a good Apple sticker though.

Threads like this reinforce my thinking that you should have to had at least 100 posts before you can start a new thread...

So, exactly, how is this better than Tivo/Replay TV? And why do I want to get email on my TV? Isn't that WebTV?

Precisely. This is why email is never a consideration when EyeHome is designed. Web surfing, however, do make some sense, since getting to surf your favourite web site on a big Plasma TV is a very fun thing to do, even though it might not be too practical. But sometimes you just want to grab some news while your Mac is far away.

I don't believe in pictures either. They take away one's soul. Or everyone's doubts about the actual existance of any particular product...
