hi! last night while at my friend's home I tried playing one of his VCD's on my powerbook... but none of my programs could recognize it (quicktime, dvd player, windows media) I was wondering of there were any free programs that allow me to play vcds?

I believe VLC can play them can't they?

Do a search at MacUpdate or VersionTracker and you'll definitely find what you are looking for.

    Yup Yup Yup

I have both VLC and MPlayer (both are free to download and free to use indefinitely). They play a raft of file types including .avi (ahem).

I prefer VLC because it lets me use Full Screen Mode on my second monitor and has a Float On Top function.

It also has a drag-and-drop Playlist function (as does MPlayer) which I like. There was a beta out a while ago?0.7 I think?but that was buggy as s*** so its been removed from VersionTracker IIRC. 0.62 works perfectly (in my experience), but doesn't have the iTunes-like brushed metal that the beta toyed with.

    Happy hunting.
