I finally broke down

I swore I'd never buy one. I swore on that the day it was announced that I would never buy one because it was the final nail in the coffin for the return of the Newton.

I told myself, I don't have much music, I'd hardly use it, and it was just too expensive. The mini iPods began to break my will. Cheaper, smaller, but it wasn't shipping until February, I thought I was safe.

But this was all before the 10% off iPod deal hit yesterday. I debated back and forth about how I didn't need an iPod, how it was a lot of money, but also knew if I didn't buy an iPod today, I wasn't going to buy one ever.

So I looked at what my taxes to make sure I didn't owe any more money, I checked out what books I need for the semester, and decided that I could afford an iPod after all, and that there would never be a better time to jump.

I called up and ordered the 40 GB iPod. I always wanted to have a small external drive for storage, but never could justify it. This way, I have a drive for backups in addition to music. I also ordered the In-Ear Headphones and AppleCare for the iPod.

I should get the iPod in a few days, I can't believe I actually bought one. Still, I'm very excited and happy with my decision.

I'll be one of the first to say it, congratulations man...You'll forget about that 'ol Newton very soon now.

    Well, you are Fran...

BTW, what made you decide on the 40 GB iPod? I understand you wanted storage space alongside the music but wouldnt 30 have been enough? Well, I guess it depends on how much it set you back, and if you dont mind telling us that'd be cool.

    good for you fran!

i was in bestbuy yesterday and i had to force myself to walk away from the ipod aisle to avoid buying the 40 gig myself. i'll wait a little longer and then maybe i'll get one.

does anyone know if its "better" to use an ipod with a mac instead of a windows pc? i read that its better to format it with a mac.

Oh well? you've left the camp now. Who'll remain? Sniff.

I'm happy for you that you finally bought an iPod. You definitely won't regret it. The iPod won't replace an Newton, that's for sure. But they don't have the same purpose anyways.

    Rock on!

I too was one of the many who did not buy one. Yet lucky me, I received one for Christmas, and have not been able to put it down ever since. Believe me you will love your iPod!

Have fun, and yes use Pod2Go.

Thanks everyone, I'm checking the Apple Store Order Status page like crazy. It says the iPod is supposed to ship today, but for now, it says 'Open'. I can't wait to get it.

Over the weekend, the Apple Store (Online) had a sale where you could get 10% off of iPods and certain iPod accessories. It was just too much for me to pass up.

I have Pod2Go installed and it really looks great. I'm really exicted about getting this iPod, I only wish it was here today.

Well the iPod finally came, and now it's charging. I can't wait to fire it up in a little bit. Now I need to get all my music on the iPod, and try out Pod2Go.

I would just like to throw out a huge SCREW YOU to Fran.

I've been going back and forth on the new iPod issue for a couple of weeks. My birthday is this month and I'm looking for something to get...

Threads like this do NOT help, pal.

Sorry Murbot, but I'm having *way* too much fun with my new iPod. I bought one of those iTrip FM Transmitters and another Firewire cable as well. The dock is plugged into the wall for power and the other cable is for plugging into my laptop. I'm too lazy to unplug the firewire cable from the ac adaptor on the floor and I don't want to keep the dock plugged into the PowerBook so the other cable helps greatly.

I want to invest in a new case for my iPod, I'm not sure why the belt clip case doesn't have access to the iPod screen or it's buttons beyond pushing the use of the remote. I want a good case that will protect the iPod while still letting me read the screen, especially with all of the stuff I transfered from Pod2Go.

    Any suggestions on a case?
