...I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper died on this day in 1959.
The plane went down in a field about 10 miles from my house, so it's always a big deal around here. The Surf Ballroom, where they gave their last performances still stands, and they have a big weekend-long celebration each year.
I was lucky enough to go a few years ago when Don Mclean was there. Hearing him play American Pie from that stage was one of the most amazing things I've experienced. There wasn't a dry eye in the house, and he said he was really feeling ghosts.
Thought I'd post this thread for the dual purpose of praising the timeless quality of their music, especially Holly's, or just times when music has taken you to another place emotionally.

I personally am taken away by funky fresh Florida breaks, British house and trance (props -> Ministry of Sound), and certain drum n' bass artists (props -> Dieselboy).
As for Buddy Holly, all I know about him is that there's a Weezer song called Buddy Holly. "Oooeeooo I look just like Buddy Holly." Weezer rawks.
There's a lot of his stuff on iTunes MS.

I love Weezer, too! That song is great, and I especially love the video.
As for the real Buddy Holly-get thee to iTunes, young man! Seriously, if you like catchy rock, you'll probably like it!

I was engaged to someone about 10 years ago, but decided to break it off. I had a two hour drive to her place to tell her. To keep my nerve up I sang along to Weezer's first album over and over!
