Sharing between a Mac and Windows XP box over the internet

Was wondering if this is possible and what the best way to do it is. My friend and I are working on some music together and will need to transfer some large files to eachother. I'd like to have a shared folder on each machine where we could leave files for eachother, but if there's a better way I'm all ears.
