i have a 1.5M broadband connection

in my 'old' PII 233, the download speed could reach around 1Mbps, (i have a software to auto-set the settings)

but in the new iMac, it reads 190kps for the fastest,

forget about the numbers, there is a notable different in downloading speed

any way i could check or any setting i need to adjust in the imac?

thanks

Well it's kinda hard to forget about the numbers.

If you have Cable or DSL that 1.5M broadband connection is actually 1.5Mb (1.5 megabits per second.

If you were getting 1Mbps with the PC that would translate to around 128Kps.

If you're getting 190Kps with the iMac that would be around 1.48Mbps.

    So:

    1Mbps (PC) vs 1.48Mbps (Mac)

    128Kps (PC) vs 190Kps (Mac)

Unless I'm not fully understanding what you wrote I don't see any problem.

    Hope that helps

yeah i agree with the numbers,

but how to explain the apparent difference (slower with the imac), blame the OSX?

    Well I guess I don't understand then.

How does 190Kps on the Mac vs 128Kps on the PC translate to the Mac is slower?

I do know that my PC does appear to be downloding faster than my Mac, but in the end they both seem to be averaging around 8 megs a minute (on a good day).

Maybe someone else here can chime in with some more help on this one.

    Good luck,

Just get a stopwatch and download the same thing if you are worried about the time...wouldn;t that be easy? Still, I would kill for a quarter of your speed...
