Taking my Apple Studio Display apart

Does anyone know how easy it is to pry open the Apple Studio Display case? I am trying to take out my old defective screen and put in a new one. I have all the screws off the back. Does the bottom part (the clear feet) just snap off? I don't want to crack my case. I am trying to swap my screen out with one that works. I like the old grey logo better than the new silver one I just bought

    say what?

I don't think anyone is really that stupid to even attempt something like that. I've never seen any how-tos floating around ... and there's some pretty crazy things people have done to their machines.

    For a logo, eh?

[Edit: Bah, that was mean. My conscience is catching up with me. For some relavance to my post, I always hate taking apart plastics. Invariably, they snap together in such a way that it's almost impossible to take back apart. And then you'll have to make sure that you don't damage the screen in the transfer... I betcha they're really delicate once outside of the rigid casing. And then you'll need to make sure that the wires line up... with an ADC cord, the USB splits off for the hub, and there's an internal connection there. So, if it is an internal plug, you're fine... otherwise be prepared to do some cutting and soldering, and even with a skilled hand your connections could be noisy or weak. In all, there are too many steps, too many risks, too few chances of it all coming together correctly for me to remove my post above. ]

I think what he really wants to do it take a defective screen from an old display, stick it into his new display, then sent that now "broken" new one in for warranty repair. I read his Current Hardware thread again:

It seems from the Apple Discussions site that many people are finding out their studio displays are dying after 13 or more months and the repair cost is close to $500!

Stupid me bought a new one when my old one died. Does anyone know how easy it would be to switch the screen out of my old stand into my new one so I can send this piece of crap back to Apple to get fixed?

If you are planning on doing that, I hope you fry your display.

If I read that wrong, sorry dude, nevermind.

Did you take pictures of the process? I'm quite curious.

Sorry, I did not take pictures. It is quite easy. Once you remove the screw with an allen wrench then you just pull it back and it snaps out of the feet.

I'm confused, ebay with a receipt and story? What does that mean?

I think he's suggesting to eBay it to someone who is willing to try to return it to Apple...

I could bring it in myself if I wanted to. The serial number is on the case, not the face.
