Sys log?

Occasionally I wake up in the morning and my machine has turned itself off. It's on a UPS so it shouldn't be power fluctuations, but who knows. Anyway, I don't know where to find any sort of system log so I can peruse what the hell was happening while I slept.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try the various logs under /var/log e.g. system.log.

Are you sleeping it at night? It's possible that for some reason your machine is overheating at some point during the night and shutting itself off. But I really have no idea.

I don't sleep it, but I never hear the fans going on super-powered either. I'll check the /var/log logs first....
