Take iPod Apart

I went to the mountains this weekend and I just had my iPod in my bookbag (although a special pocket above everything...but with my camera) and now the metal along the side is out further then the plastic. It looks like the plastic was just pushed down and it is holding the metal out, and I think if I took it apart I could put it together properly. Is it worth trying, or could I have applecare fix this for me? My only concern is that something broke that shouldn't have because I hear something shaking around inside of it now \

Any good tutorials online of how to open it and not f*** it up? Also is there a way apple can tell I opened it so that the warrenty is void if/when I need a new battery?

Was it cold in the mountains?

I ask because i've often wondered if taking an ipod in the cold could create a problem such as yours. If its cold, the metal could contract faster than the plastic or vice versa

the metal and plastic on my ipod are not quite flush and i wonder if it is from taking it outside in the cold (even if its in an inside pocket of my jacket, its still kind of cold).

i can't remember how flush they were when i first got the iPod.

    edit: spelling

It was cold, but I'm not sure that my book bag (iPod inside) was out in the cold enough for it to cool down that much. It's possible but they should be back to room temperature and possible for me to take it apart and snap it back together properly correct?

Edit: Yeah I wedged my lock pick in there and wiggled it around until it snapped back into place. It's still not as close as the other side but still very close, and I think it may be because it has been being pushed out excessively by the plastic for at least a day and me when I stuck in my lock-pick.
