I have a 12 incher super drive 1ghz. Lately, my powerbook will not go to sleep when i close the lid. Any ideas why this is so? I have panther running.

It does go to sleep when I manually command it in the command menus. But not the lid closing. Thanks for info.

Another thing I am discovering is that once I close the lid, and open it back up, it will go to sleep after about 15 seconds by it self. Any ideas?

    Did you try warm milk?

How long did you close the lid before deciding it's not sleeping?

have you tried closing the lid slowly? sometimes if you close it too fast it won't recognize it.

Your reed switch might be broken. I say this because the exact same thing just happened with my iBook G4 and that's the part that was repaired. Apparently, it is a tiny part in screen.

Thanks for your helps. What I am discovering is that after I shut the lid, if I wait 30-35 seconds, it will go to sleep. Before, it used to go to sleep immediately. Should I get this repaired?

    Thanks

Another problem is that my powerbook will not go to sleep if I have the lid open. Before, after the specified time in the energy panel, it would go to sleep. Any other users with this problem? Is this a software problem? hardware? Do I take it to get it repaired?

Do you have a process running that may be keeping you Powerbook from going to sleep? If not you might want to consider installing one. I prefer Stanford's Folding@home client. If your Powerbook isn't going to go to sleep you might as well contribute to medical science. Apple seems to think it a good cause. http://www.apple.com/scitech/stories/stanford/
