Must it be Bluetooth? You said you had a Pro Mouse before... is there any reason you can't get another corded mouse, or an RF wireless mouse instead of Bluetooth?

Personally, I use a Logitech MX500 (soon to be replaced with an MX700 from the Cordless MX Duo). It has lots and lots of buttons on it, more than most people would want or need. But if you do need a good mouse, just check out Logitech. They make the best mice. They do have a Bluetooth one, the MX900, but they also have lower end cordless and corded mice. The MX300 is a good one.

I went through a similar ordeal about a month ago. My pro mouse died, and I figured I would shop for a BlueTooth mouse. Then I actually went down to Best Buy and the Apple Store to look at mice. I ended up with a Logitech MX310 that I absolutely adore.

It has two buttons, a scroll wheel, a button in front of the scroll wheel, and two more buttons on either side. I'd of bought the MX500, but I didn't like how it placed the outside buttons only on the left intended for your thumb to hit either. I found it to be uncomfortable and straining on my hand.

Anyhow, $25 later I had a corded mouse with like five buttons that kicks ass.

I also use the MX500 and would like to get another cordless mouse, but I had a Microsoft Bluetooth at one point and the batteries make the mouse much heavier, so the mouse movements were jerkier. Have you tried the MX700? I'm wondering if there will be a loss of smoothness regardless of the type of cordless mouse because of the bonus weight of the batteries.

Are there any bluetooth mice that have some kind of rechargable battery system? I was surprised that Apple's bluetooth mouse used standard batteries. I'd have thought they'd do a best-of-breed solution and include a little charging station or something. That'd be nice, I'd be annoyed when my standard batteries died.

I had an MX700 about a year ago and it was strange at first. I had to get used to the tracking, and the extra weight, but I got used to that within a few days. Wireless mice that incorporate a charging station include the Logitech MX700 and MX900, and the Kensington Studio Mouse. Only the MX900 of those is Bluetooth.

It is very good. And very confortable for extended use without tire the fingers, since the entire mouse is the button.

Yeah- I got my apple mouse as a christmas gift- I had a microsuck 2 button w/ scroll wheel before and thought that I would miss the 2nd button and wheel. NOPE! The apple mouse is really really nice espically when using keyboard shortcuts in most pro applications. I always keep my left hand on the keyboard and my right hand on the mouse- you don't even know how fast you can work this way (once you learn the shortcuts). Everything is right at your fingertips!

    Peace.

Oh yeah- MacWorld rates the apple mouse highest in the wireless catagory (and the wireless keyboard too).

Some keyboards also have a scroll wheel on the side. The Logitech Elite has one on the left edge. I bet it would work out pretty well when combined with a one-button mouse - you can keep your left hand on the keyboard, using the scroll wheel whenever necessary. Even assign the scroll click to a right click or something.

Do all these Bluetooth mice that come with recievers work with the internal one on a Al PowerBook?

Logitech is my number one choice when it comes to mice. I am currently waiting for full support of their bluetooth mouse before I buy it. Previously, I used the Logitech Cordless MX Duo and it worked beautifully. But I needed a more portable solution for my Powerbook.

I am currently using a Macally RF Mouse Jr. It's a two-button, scroller, cordless, optical and while it is not bluetooth, the receiver is tiny enough (thumb size) and creates no clutter. It also has a charging station that I keep at home. Not a bad portable mouse solution.

If you can really find it in your heart to drop damn near $70 on Apple's one button BlueTooth mouse, well, your pockets stretch deeper than mine. I have found that my Logitech mouse has better tracking than my Apple mouse; I can move the mouse across the screen quicker, and it never skips. Sure, it is slightly heavier, but I'm sure as shit not paying $70 for a mouse.
