iBook battery - preventative measures

Hello my geniuses,

I would like some advice, to clear up various different stories on the net. I have an iBook 700 MHz, and I often use it as a desktop replacement. I have had a battery problem with it recently, and installed a new battery. Everything is fine now.

So, hopefully some of you are actually "geniuses" and know something about iBook batteries and their usage, and can put some factual information here in this thread.

Is it alright to leave the iBook plugged in for days, as in a desktop situation? Should the battery be removed instead? What's up with Apple, not giving clear instruction either way?

Looking forward to hearing some good advice, to keep my battery healthy for all its 500 cycles. Thanks in advance,

Nicholas

First off, if you only get 500 cycles out of a battery, that sucks and you got ripped off. A battery should get a minimum of 1000 cycles (if you treat it right). You should have no problems with leaving it plugged in for extended periods of time, it won't hurt the battery to leave it at 100% charge for extended periods of time. My best advice is to leave it plugged in unless you really need to unplug it. That should prevent you from using up charge cycles and like I said before, won't hurt the battery.

There you go. Thanks for clearing up my 500 cycles thing. I think I read that somewhere, that a lithium-ion battery is only good for about 500 cycles.

I'm happy to leave it plugged in.
