Just wanted peoples opinion on the Altec Lansing inMotion Portable iPod speakers. Who has them and what do you think of them any good should I get them, are they worth it, any good alternatives?
My girlfriend got me the inMotion for Christmas. I really like it. The sound quality is very good overall, although not really room-filling. It is not nearly as good as, say, my $99.00 Creatures, or most any three-piece set I've heard. But if you just want something to sit on your desk and listen, then it's great. If you want something to replace a home stereo, however, you'll probably be dissappointed.
I think the thing to remember is that the inMotion was designed to be a portable set of speakers, and not necessarily the loudest or best quality. It folds flat and there are no wires to connect (unless you have a first-gen iPod), so it is great for me when I travel. I've pretty much stopped connecting the exteral power and just run off batteries, since I get about 20 hours off a set.
If you're a serious audiophile (one of those people who swears that she/he can detect minute differences in speakers but who really can't), you should try to listen to a set before you buy. If there is an Apple store near you I would bet they will let you open a box and hear them.
BTW, it comes with a felt drawstring bag to carry it in, but I noticed that Waterfield Bags now makes a carrying case for it. I'm considering getting one...but they are pretty pricey. Hope this helps.
