I have marvelled over the years as picture after picture of our universe came from that wonderful telescope in space : Hubble :

Now it seems unless we can get the USA Government & Nasa to change their mind Hubble is doomed.

Not because it has gone past its use by date, but simply because some pen pushers can't justify its continued existence.

Help persuade those in power to change their mind. Think of the benefit that all mankind reaps in funding such explorations. The universe is a book waiting to be read. Hubble is our eyes to such wonders.

I urge you to sign the online petition. Only your help can keep it in orbit.

Save Our Hubble Telescope

Aqua

This petition is for US citizens only. In the meantime I will be seeking an international petition. But this is an important start.

I guess its a bit like me before the burning of MIR. For sentimental reasons I would have kept it up there since so much groundbreaking stuff about man in space was done onboard that flying tin can. But that would have drained funds used for the much better ISS. Its excatly the same situation with Hubble but as a person from NASA said "its a sad day for NASA but this is a nessesary sacrifice"

That's a long way off (even if the 2011 date isn't delayed -- these dates have a tendency to slip years at a time). Without further maintenance the Hubble will likely fail years before a new telescope is deployed.

While I like the idea of going to Mars, Bush's version of that idea is an overpriced welfare program for aerospace contractors. We can do Mars much more cheaply, and keep money in the budget for more science and more unmanned missions.
