The iMac just works as advertised.

Well I'm finally typing this out on my new combo iMac and yes, it's sweet.

We'd all want faster Macs, (and OSX could still be faster) but there has to be something said about usability.

I'm up and running in no time right out of the box. While that may because I'm a Mac veteran, but Apple had done a great job in the packaging right down to the walkthrough to connect to the internet.

It truly is an engineering feat.

That said, how difficult do you think it would be to make the stainless steel arm telescopic?

Ah, yes! A telescopic arm! Cool idea!

So, what OS are you running?

I must admit, I'm on 9.2 but I'm playing with OSX as well.

Are you on 10.2 yet? My iMac came with 10.13 and I'm wondering if I should upgrade.

    Does 10.2 boost performance?

I only have 256K RAM right now.

    Thanks

Either you're living in some parallel universe or you're very confused You can't run a mac on 256k of RAM (I know it was just a typo) and 10.2 isn't out yet. 10.1.3 is the latest version. Sure there are old builds of 10.2 floating around some place, but I don't think that's what you mean. Or is it? <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

I just got my new iMac (combo drive too) and it's smooth as silk, butI got free* 256 MB RAM, for a total of 512 MB. Aside form the occasional Finder hiccup (spinning disc but briefly), it's damn nice. I haven't set up a Mac in quite while. It's nice to do that every so often. Reminds of why I like Macs.

IMO, don't fiddle with 10.2 builds unless you really want to fiddle with 10.2 builds.

Yeah, you know what I meant about the RAM.

And ooops I thought 10.2 was out, but apparently I must have been dreaming or wishful thinking.

Regardless, the iMac itself so far is a dream.

AT the price (now 100 richer) it ought to be. At least all the reports in here seem to be positive. iMac certainly is droolworthy.

No offense taken Torifile. I just wish I had more time to enjoy my iMac at home instead of working late at the office on my "boring" PowerMac tower.

At least you have Mac in the office! You know you like your computer when you're thinking of ways to stay home with it.

    Hi all,

This is my first post to AI however, I have been reading these boards for years and feel privledged to be part of such a distinguished group. :-)

I am happy to report that my SuperDrive iMac has purred since I got it at the begining of March . I have been switching back & fourth between 9.2 & OSX and have to say I just love X. Can't wait for more native X apps to be released like Pshop, childrens games like Reader Rabbit . Sponge Bob Square pants, Disney stuff (my 3 yr old daughter plays these under 9.2), Netscape, and the new release of Eudora. All the iApps work very well, Quicken works flawlessly, and AppleWorks is such a nice alternative to Office.

Anyway, this machine does work as advertised. With more kick ass products like this, Apple shouldn't have any trouble gaining marketshare.

    Nick :-)
