Macs on The Price is Right
I was just watching The Price is Right and much to my surprise one of the prizes in the showcase was a 14" iBook G4. Is this apple trying to reach new markets (college kids and the elderly)? or did they just just decided to put a mac up for bid? Regardless it's kinda weird seeing Apple products in the same category as Turtle Wax and cheap living room sets.

The same guys poo-pooing QVC, infomercials, commercials PERIOD, being on "The Price is Right", etc. often bitch loudest at the 3% stuff.
You can "cool" yourself into an elitist oblivion and permanent niche (Apple may already have, I don't know). Or you can take your stuff to the people.
I see computers and electronic gear on game shows all the time. Why should Apple be any different?
But yeah, the Turtle Wax/Rice-a-Roni/Wrigley's Gum juxtapositions are jarring.
Although, if it's in the Showcase portion of the show, that's where the big prizes are: European vacations, RVs, sailboats, sports gear, furniture, etc. Makes sense that an iBook would be on that portion. The Turtle Wax and other stuff like that is never part of the Showcase.

Don't forget stay at home moms. They have the most discretionary income of the family.
pscates is right, Apple does need to reach a larger market, and hey, The Price Is Right offers that.
This iBook was bundled with a trips to Nashville and Tahiti so it it was nice to have a portable bundled with trips. Also the lucky guy won both showcases which included the ibook, trips, and a convertible.
Something else I noticed was that Apple was not listed at the end of the show as providing products for free or less than retail.
Anyway, don't forget to have your pet spade or neutered.
