Novel Uses for iPod
[snip]
Basically, I want to know if anyone has tried using the iPod as an image storage facility. That is, if anyone has used their iPod in tandem with a Firewire (or USB) compatible camera, while taking pictures away from their Macs (read: when they have no place to empty their media cards). Any comments would be appreciated.

The BBC just had a story on unofficial uses for the iPod. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/sci/tech/newsid_1933000/1933142.stm
What digital cameras ship with a firewire port? It seems that most consumer-level ones feature an "ultra-fast" USB connection instead.

Some high end cameras feature FW. I searched dpreview.com and the lowest price was the Sigma (foveon chip) for $3,000. USB is a joke for cameras that might have a 256MB or larger CF card for storage. I don't know why they don't use FW.
Anyway, do you guys think an iPod could be used in this way with a digital SLR that supports Firewire or no?

The Nikon D-100 5MP Prosumer SLR will support Firewire, ...(snip)

A little off topic but where did you find out that the D-100 will support FW? I recently downloaded the spec sheet from Nikon and it only mentions USB 1.1. I even sent an email to Nikon complaining that a camera of this level ought to have FW. Seems like I heard something similar about the Nikon D-5.
This could be a really cool camera if it has FW.

My mistake Nuetrino. You are correct. USB 1.1 will be the connectivity protocol. I must've been thinking of a different camera. In any case, the specs for the D100 have just been updated, and in addition to an extra MP, there are some other goodies that should be offered.
