Dumb Quicktime question
Hi. This is probably going to sound trivial and ridiculous, but it's driving me a bit crazy, so any help would be appreciated. My Software Update keeps notifying me that QT v. 6.5 is available to download. When I try to do so, it tells me to enter my QT registration information, including the registration number. It also says (something like), "If you do not have a registration number, leave this field blank."
Well, I left that field blank, but it won't let me proceed without it. So I can't download the update. The problem is, I don't seem to have a registration number for my current version of QT (6.3). I've looked for it in all the usual places, and it ain't there. Is it possible that I somehow never needed a reg. number before?
Anyway, I'd like to be able to get the update, which I suppose means I need to figure out how to get a registration number. It's not as simple as it sounds. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Just go to the Apple website and download the standalone QuickTime installer. The registration number is for QuickTime Pro. If you never bought QuickTime Pro, then you don't have a QuickTime registration number. However, you don't need it to download the standalone installer.

Thank you, Mr. Me. I'll give that a try.

I think the trick is to not fill anything out on the registration screen. If you fill out the name field, it expects you enter in the other fields. So leave them all blank and you should be able to continue.
Yes, that does seem to be the solution. Funny how such a minor thing can cause so much aggravation! Thanks to everyone for your help--I appreciate it.
