1.412 Billion shopping spree- do you think it would help Apple ???
For any price under 2 Billion- I think its one heck of a deal..
What do you think of Apple buying MACromedia, Inc.
About Macromedia, Inc:
Macromedia, Inc. is a software company whose software enables business users, developers and designers to create and deliver experiences on the Internet, fixed media, wireless and digital devices. The Company provides three families of products to address this market opportunity: Macromedia MX Products, Information Convenience Products, and Mobile and Device Products. The Macromedia MX family of products provides client software, server and development tools for cost-effectively building Websites and Internet applications that offer highly effective end user experiences. Information Convenience Products enable non-technical business users to create and deliver information without intricate technical training. Mobile and Device Products are targeted at device manufacturers, carriers and media networks.
Apple would still let the day-2-day managment continue from Macromedia Staff...
Here are reasons why I think it would help.
#1 MACromedia's name is huge (something like 98% of online users have shockwave plug in)
#2 MACromedia would ALWAYS make products for Apple
#3 People that go to MACromedia to download say "shockwave" - on the same page could be a link to download "iTunes" or "safari"
#4 Apple could make Contribute 2 as part of the free software package to make Apple look more attractive
Macromedia Contribute 2 is the easiest way for individuals and teams to update, create, and publish web content to any HTML website. Contribute allows non-technical users to update web content while maintaining site standards for style, layout, and code. [/I]
#5 People that buy say Macromedia Flash -would find a free iTunes CD for Mac or Windows packaged with Flash 8)
#6 the name it self MACromedia

Web tools just aren't going to be the ticket to huge profits. Right now Apple would be best to looking for aquisitions that would help them in the Enteprise market where they just look lost.
At market cap just short of 1 billion dollars U.S. but controlling 16-18% of the Web content (compared to Quicktime's 7-9%), this is the little fish to gobble.

IMHO, Real Networks is the company Apple should acquire. For whatever reason, people are choosing either their product or Windows Media for content distribution and Quicktime is receding. (The caveat is that the iPod and iTunes successes have "forced" a lot more Quicktime installs).

that would be great - if apple could make real for windwos not SUCK then a lot more end usres would choose to use it, not just use it begrugingly for propryatary content, like NFL or Nascar on demand
(after thought)
apple should take over red hat to make corprate inroads, and also get 1 hell of a corprate service division, phase out enterprise linux replace it with osx server, they always have an intel copy on hand for such a time as this.

They may not be the huge ticket to profits but a Macromedia acquisition might not be all about the profits. Apple would own Flash and Flash is huge. I'm sure Apple could do some good stuff with Macromedia. Besides they would acquire some *good* programmers for other stuff Apple may have in mind IE. more .Mac integration

Real and Windows Media have been 'sold' to content distributors in a very convincing way. Apple announced their streaming initiative a while back, but then it sort of disappeared. Apple has a real problem with targeting new markets and staying focused on that attack.
apples real problem - apple does a 300k webcast of live events that is not even as good as a 128 k live video/audio feed in wmp, this looks bad to potential quicktime content providers, and real well....they SUCK HARD!!!!!
