Apple's enterprise solution...buy Oracle?
This is related to the marketshare thread, but deals specifically at how Apple can make inroads into the corporate world.
I'm just throwing this out here, but I've always wondered why Apple hasn't aligned itself a bit more with Oracle. Don't they dominate the enterprise world?
And isn't Jobs' buddy Ellison, on the Apple board?

apple should take over red hat to make corprate inroads, and also get 1 hell of a corprate service division, phase out enterprise linux replace it with osx server, they always have an intel copy on hand for such a time as this.
also, oracle's currently being stymied from buying peoplesoft for potentially becoming a monopoly in their field. oracle's just too bloody big for anything but a hostile microsoft takeover (oh crap, they may be listening!!!)

We use Oracle 8.1.7.3 running on AIX 5.1 platform. Im an AIX/CCL programmer for one of six sister Hospitals. Currently we have 6 hospitals in our state running remote sites. All sites are tied into their own domain on our Shark thats powered by a Regatta. Front ends are citrix servers that all the floors access via a Citrix web client.
EDIT: shouldn't say AIX programmer b/c well...thats dumb...should say CCL programmer specialized in an AIX env.

ahh you will like 10g
transportable tablespaces
auto extent management
and...
a regex parser inside the db so you can do regex
inside a sql statement transforming data on the fly
using a regular expression

That will be nice for our Oracle DBA's. Routine checking extents and adding LV datafiles to tablespaces is a pain. Of course the reason we are on 8 (testing 9) is because the software we use (Cerner Suite), takes forever for the vendors to certify it for enterprise use. Course I don't mind them taking their time as long as it works when we upgrade and all my programs still run.
