help with building firewire800 external

I am trying to build a firewire b enclosure external hard drive. Most enclosures I seen convert IDE to firewire. I am wondering if there is a way to convert SATA to Firewire b? Is this even wise or would going from IDE to firewire b, be more effective?

    Will there even be a difference between firewire 400 and 800? Will a typical 7200RPM hard drive use up the speed or take advantage of the firewire b?
