Optical drives on Macs? :::

Was wondering......

1. could you replace a stock mac superdrive with another drive of your own? & not lose the integration of the system with the new drive?

2. where does the superdrive connect to on the motherboard? does it share the ONE ide channel on the mobo with the HD?

thanks

    1. Yes. In fact, Apple provides support with a <a href="http://www.info.apple.com/support/cip/g4qs-dvddrive-cip.mov.html"; target="_blank">how-to movie here</a>. (or get the <a href="http://www.info.apple.com/support/cip/pdf/g4qd-cddvddrive.pdf"; target="_blank">PDF here</a>)

    2. The CD/DVD is connected to the Zip drive (with the Zip as the slave) and then to the front of the mobo (the cable with the blue tip at the bottom of the pic). The hard drives are connected separately to the mobo in the left-center of the picture.

    thanks for the answers.... so the ide channels are actually connected to a card on the pci bus?

    here's your answer about the ":::"........

    it's because when i come back onto the forums, my posts [actually, just the one's I start] are easier to spot....... sometimes they scroll back into other pages so it's easier [for me] this way. & it doesn't really cause much confusion to anyone else , since no one else does it, & i assume that it doesn't really bother or hamper anyone else's AI forum experience
