If it's the golden CDs with the black graphics overlaid on them, yes. I have a couple, and they clearly sound better than the standard versions. The Police: Synchronicity is one of them, Yellow Brick Road from Elton John is the other.
I can only describe it as sounding more "alive". Basically you feel like you're listening on a pair of studio monitors and not through a medium like CD. Very vibrant. Although I will say that if you have the average Best Buy College Dorm Special ? stereo, you're not likely to notice a difference because the speakers will not have a good enough range in that case (most likely).
Sort of like asking if 160kbps AAC sounds better than 128 kbps MP3, while listening through those little globe speakers Apple ships with the iMac.
These "specialty reissues" always seem to have an aire of controversy that follows them. It wouldn't be the first time, but a little EQ, some compression, and a higher gain setting in the remastering can make the end product seem like a lot of things, not to mention "higher fidelity". It's all a matter of sounding a bit different rather than better. Just check out all the hubbub surrounding the new Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon reissue on SACD, for instance...
I remember them from the album days. I've always like the quality of their CDs, but I'm not a golden-eared listener. I remember reading about their process back in the old Stereo Review. As an engineer, I'd buy into their methodology, but ultimately, you'll just have to listen for yourself to see if it's worth it.

if you have 5.1 check out the last flaming lips SACD, it is absolutely mind-blowing.
is that the reissue with bonus dvd?
a friend played it for me in his living room after i commented to him that all those "super discs" were useless and i couldn't tell much difference.
that's when he whipped out the flaming lips (Yoshima vs. the Robots), and blew my mind.
i just talked to him and i stand corrected, it was not an SACD as i stated but a DVD in 5.1.
it's been meticulously remixed, and individual notes flying around the room. it was the amazing thing i've ever heard.
