PortalPlayer Gets A Nice Bunch Of $ For Every iPod Sold

According to the following article PortalPlayer receives $15 for every iPod sold. Not bad I'd say. There are hints that Apple might go elsewhere for the OS in the future.

    I've always been surprised how much help apple gets on the iPod. I figured with their taste for doing things themselves they would have liked to make a lot of it them selves. I guess PortalPlayer has a lot going for them if they can be so popular with everyone and beat Texas Instruments even!

    They don't create the OS, they make the decoding chip and it's related firmware.



    Pixo used to make the OS, though I believe it's now done in-house.
