I was just surfing about the net today and thinking about getting a DVR. I didn't look too hard, but it seemed that they all required a subscription service in order to operate. Are there any that I can just buy with all the cost up front and no subscription. I don't mind programming it the old fashioned way.



As an alternative, is there anyway program to set a timer recording on my Mac? I've got a Dazzle video converter so all it would have to do is startup and record the video signal for a certain period.

    I'm not sure, as I don't have one, but I think that in TiVo's case the subscription is only for their "Season Pass" features.
