free 3D modeler for OS X ?

Is there any free 3D modeler for OS X ? Or maybe just a viewer ?



I need something that can export files in 3ds format.

    Maya PLE (Personal Learning Edition) is full Maya Complete, but it puts a watermarks on all your renderings.



    Cheetah is a free modeler, and it can export 3ds files apparently. I don't know how good it is. http://homepage.mac.com/mwengenm/news.html



    It's pretty damn amazing that something as complex and hard to create as a 3D modeler would ever be free. Count your blessings that one is! We'll see how long that lasts, though.

    you forgot to mention blender and its free!! Apart from maya it the best

    According to the webpage, Cheetah costs $59 while the demo is free (though you can't save in the demo version).

    Wings 3D is an open-source modeler based on Nuendo/Mirai and offers 3DS export functionality.



    Blender is a lot more cluttered and steep if all you want is a modeler/viewer for exporting. But give both a shot.

    A few months ago there was the old version (v6 "LE" I believe) available for FREE in the Computer Arts and 3D World Magazines' cover CDs

    You can get a .3DS viewer for OS X at http://www.kalsaya.com/downloads.htm called Pipeline3D. It is a viewer/converter for 3D formats (including .3ds, .obj, .lwo, .pov, e.t.c.)
