eMac sans Modem

Anyone notice the 999 eMac does not come iwth a modem...

    No burning CD's, no surfing the 'net, what are these kids supposed to do, work?

    Because everyone still surfs the net on a modem in a school lab.



    Worse comes to worst, they can have 20 iMacs share a connection on an AirPort Basestation modem...

    there is no reason for lab workstations to have a modem

    everybody is on a lan

    I know it is not necessary for an ed purchase and that no one in a school needs the modem. But isn't this new for Apple to strip stuff out for an ed computer? I imagine this means they have really shaved the margins on the thing.

    They're probably saving about $5-10 per computer with no modems. Similar to what they're saving with the lack of a floppy drive.



    It also allows for less motherboard space, few ports (which one do I plug my Ethernet cable into?), etc.



    I wouldn't be surprised if they do this with the low end iMacs eventually as well.



    Anyone notice, at the same time they're doing this they are making the Airport card standard on the high-end Powerbook.



    I love the way Apple drags the computer users to where they should be, even if it is kicking and screaming...

    Where is this $999 eMac everyone is talking about?



    All I see is the $1,249.00 and the $1,516.00 model!
