Ti 800 screens and warranty's

I'm trying to put my order in for the Ti 800, but can't decide on who's plan to go with.

My delima is that I've heard the Ti's screen will get some wear after awhile because the keys actually touch the screen when you close the lid, so they sort of indent into it after awhile. Also alot of ppl seem to leave a pen or pencil on their keyboard, then close the lid causing it to crack.

Anyone had that happen? I don't know whether to go w/ apples APP care plan (which has no accidental coverage on the screen), or a local coverage which is one year less, but does cover replacing accidental screen damage.

Wonder if there's some sort of screen cover for these probs to use when it's closed up.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

(for the 'pen' thing, or the old 'catch the power cord with your foot causing the PowerBook to tumble onto a hard surface, smashing the shit out of it' thing)

Working in the Apple channel in Australia, we only have ACPP. I can say that I will be getting a ACPP with my newly ordered PB800. There are no cheap parts in a PB, and a PP will more than make up its cost in a warranty service. God knows how much our service dept. makes on non warranty laptop parts and labour....take it from me...it's worth all the $$ you pay for one!!

Would it be better to buy the ACPP WITH the computer, or to wait for the 1 year limited warranty to run out and THEN buy it?

Would I then get 4 years of coverage total? or just 2 extra?

I concur with Safeware as they are a great insurance program. I've had two PowerBook accidents -- spilled coffee and accidental drop -- and they took care of the repairs.

As far as the AppleCare Protection Plan, it's good for three years of coverage. If you buy it with the computer you get four years -- the original one-year coverage and three additional years.

    I suggest getting both plans.

You need to buy the ACPP within the limited warranty period. I f you buy it after the warranty period, you'll have to pay for it year by year at higher prices!!
