Hard drive spin down question

I keep working on things that demand consistent performance . . . video and audio that gets interupted when teh hard drive spins down or spins back up.

Is there a way to set soemthing that will keep the hard drive active as laong as I need it to be?

It is a very annoying situation because often I am outputting video or sound that takes a long time of uniterrupted smooth operation and invariably the HD will spin down and cause a droped frame or something . . . .

Make sure that "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible." is unchecked in your energy saver preferences pane. Other than that, I'm not sure.

The hard drive should never spin down when it's in use. It's only supposed to spin down after so many minutes of non-use. Sounds like you may have other problems.

    Eeek...I didn't think of that.

Try checking your HDDs SMART status. Go into Terminal and type:

    Code:

    diskutil info disk0

If the line that says SMART Status: says anything but "Verified" than you do have problems.
