What a bummer!

I just received my new 17" powerbook yesterday. I was SO freaking happy after waiting and waiting for a possible release of a G5 Powerbook. But, I just couldn't wait any longer.

2 hours after opening the box and setting up the wireless network I inserted my first CD to install hardware and get things in high gear.

What a let down!

It spat all discs back at me - would not mount anything. After making all the usuall calls to Apple - it was clear it had to go back.

New one should be on my doorstep today. Hopefully it proves to be what the 1st one should have been....a kick ass mac.

Look at the bright side. Your first "problem" computer is now gone. The next one'll be a champ.

Did you put the discs in label side up?

An optimist might suggest that by returning your 17, you have actually gained another small measure of purchase protection. At several points in the past, people who returned machines for repair around the time of a new model release were sometimes offered upgrades to the new model. If a PBG5 were to be released while your replacement was still pending, you might be able to change order.

Minimal upside for the inconvenience, perhaps, but potential silver lining if you're feeling cloudy.

Well, at least you are getting it out if the way now, before you have 40gigs of your vital data on it!

Makes me wonder how Apple does re: Six Sigma?

"Big PowerBook, no whammies, no whammies... STOP, at a whammy!"

A PowerBook is worth the wait, even a small delay. You have my sympathy. Hope this is your only problem for awhile.

All I can now say is WOW!!!

Thanks for the comments. This is one of many macs I've owned/worked with. Been a while since my last purchase but I'd def say this was worth waiting for.

Fast, beautiful and lots of nice touches (love the lighted keyboard).

Amazing. Now I must figure out how to use my wireless internet router.

oh, one thing...I notice the fan seems to be kicking in a bit. my old powerbook prob ran the fan 3 times since i've owned it. any other 17 powerbook owners get this?
