40GB iPod Problems...

Doesn't show up on desktop, doesn't show up in iTunes, doesn't show up in disk utility. Is there anything I can do? My friend also said it doesn't charge properly, and I just wanted to see if there was anything I could do to get the computer to recognize it before he takes it in.



How do you get into firmware or diagnostic mode or whatever?

    I poked around at the ipodlounge.com and according to their FAQ you can try this:

    Try Forced Firewire Mode. If the Apple logo is not showing on your iPod, try a Reset by pressing and holding the Menu + Pause/Play buttons for 10 seconds or so. At the Apple logo, press the FF and REW buttons until it says "OK to Disconnect". Then connect your iPod to the computer.



    Unmount it normally, it should be back to normal. If not, put it back into Forced Firewire Mode and do a Restore with the Apple Software Updater.

    diagnostic mode on the ipod (3g):



    hold down menu and play/pause til the apple logo shows up, then hold down back, forward, and select. the apple logo reverses (very cool) and you enter diag mode. reset again to exit.
