Driving me nuts!

Today.. actually maybe an house ago my Power Mac G5 started making this never before heard hum. It's a different hum from the regular hums it makes so i decided to investigate. It's coming from the bottom. And sometimes it's not faint but other times it's so loud it's just not cool. I can just lightly tap the bottom and it will stop, then fade back in in a few minutes. I've never heard it before.. it's starting to be really annoying. Anyone experience this before?

    Thread title of the year!

Seriously, can you describe the noise a little better? Could it be a fan rubbing slightly against a casing or something?

oh crap... moderator.. please change the title to "Driving me nuts" sorry about that.

Ok, at first I thought it was a fan.. but im thinking it might be the power supply because the sound spans all the way from the front to the back. But then again it's metal and vibrations can travel all around the case. It's more of a beeping sound. It is really sensitive i mean, i can push my desk just a little and it will stop.

this is really hard to describe. hmm.. sounds like a fish pump

When you press some places with your hand.. like the front of the G5.. it is just super loud.

I was tempted to just leave the title.

Done... good luck with your noise issues.

There are definitely "known issues" with strange noises from G5 power supplies.

hmm.. that doesn't sound good. Looks like it might be the power supply. They have a thread at Apple Discussions too but most of it is about the Dual machines, mine is the single 1.8. I hope it stops, or I can get something replaced. I'll have to check out those CHUD tools. The funny part is I can stop it just by holding my finger on the bottom. I'll work something out.
