I've thought about this before...I may have even posted a similar question in a different thread...but are there any instances in history where terrorist activities have been successfully ended through armed force or heavily armed police action? I can't think of any - certainly not in the history of any modern western democracy. If you want the terror to end, it would seem that eventually you have to talk with the terrorists.

    A1. Black.

    A2. White.

    Can they both be right?

No, because the answers contradict each other.

    Can they both be wrong?

Yes. There can be an unstated third, fourth or fifth answer, any one, or none, of which may be correct.

    Extremely good analogy.

No but almost all of our military is 100% voluntary. So if they wanted to be they could.

Interesting aside. According to the following article, Nelson Mandela's name may have only recently been removed from the US list of known terrorists.

    What part isn't voluntary?

Fair enough, though hardly ratcheting things down, but I doubt that Hamas will sit back and wait for him somehow.

Revisionist history. Arafat started the infatada after rejecting peace.

I wasn't 100% sure about it but the more I think about it, I think that all of it is voluntary.

Hamas won't be able to get near to members of the Israeli government. My ex-girlfriend used to be good friends with a guy (ex-IDF, probably Shin Bet but wouldn't have been allowed to say) who worked security at their EU mission, and nobody is as paranoid and protected. Even the US Perm. Rep. would show up at nearby meetings or functions on foot, accompanied by one or two Secret Service guys. His Israeli counterpart would be in an armored limo with five agents.

Hamas will retaliate by sending more suicide bombers to murder Israeli civillians...and the Israeli government will retaliate with more assasinations of terrorists and more brutal treatment and murder of Palestinian civilians.

Right, that why the assassination of Rabin had a smell of conspiracy.

Looks like Hamas has a new leader. Only this one is not being called the "spiritual" leader. Kind of puts the lie on the table about the pervious one being the "spiritual" leader.

The position has been filled and the new guy is not the "spiritual" leader so I'm going to say the old guy wasn't either. The vacancy was not for a "spiritual" leader but for "leader".

The whole idea of a "political" wing and "military" wing of terrorist organizations is a lie. It?s all a terrorist organization and everyone actively involved are terrorists.

And how do you tell when an organization is a terrorist organization?

And can a terrorist organization cease to be a terrorist organization - or is it a case of 'once a terrorist organization always a terrorist organization'?

When they intentionally target innocent people, citizens and domestic targets instead of military targets.

I think that that is a fairly easy thing to figure out.

The Provisional IRA maintained that it only attacked viable military targets (but civillians often got killed). The Israeli Defense Force frequently kills innocent civillians (but maintains that it does not target them intentionally). Which of these is the terrorist organization?

Perhaps more importantly, who gets to decide which organization is the terrorist organization?

The only problem with that line of thinking is that Sharon did not create the terrorists. They themselves choose to kill innocent people. But I guess arguing the personal responsibility thing would reach only deaf ears here.

Like I said before, Palestinians do not consider Israelis to be human so you can't argue human rights with them because of that view. They want the extermination of Israel, plain and simple. So they will find any excuse to kill more Israelis. Equating what Israel does with what the palestinian terrorists do is just sick.

Don't get me wrong, death is death, and is bad but Israel is not targeting everyday Palestinians. They are targeting militants, terrorists, and killers that are so cowardly as to hide among their own people, thus putting them at risk.

If you cannot see that, I really don't know what to say.
