Dual imac ?

For all the technical marvels that is going on with the 970fx, it seems that heat will be an issue for some time forward. Putting a G5 into the iMac casing, which seems tiny-tiny compared to the PowerMac ´panzer´, may be more difficult than we think.

Could Apple, in desperation, make the iMac into a dual moto G4 ?

Unless, Apple comes up with a totally (radically) new chassing for the iMac.

Probably much bigger.

I know that this idea is not ideal, but if you can´t get a G5 into an iMac, then . . . .

best regards

No because G4^2 is greater than 970fx^1 in heat dissipation requirements in most cases.

There's no point for added complexity. Simply use a 1.6Ghz 970fx and your looking at roughly 18watts as opposed to Dual 1.25 which are probably 15 watts each CPU.

You'd think that they'd just make the casing bigger wouldn't you ?.

After all it doesn't need to be that small it could be taller and the arm could just bend down or if they aren't doing and all in one then they could do the case some other way.

While I think dualies could be done, Apple will not do it as I think they want to keep the Pro line separated and this is one of the big differences.

I think the pro line will be all dualies too.

    Thats whenever they come out.

iPod is king at Apple right now.

The iMac will be dual when the PM goes Quad. I'm not holding my breath on that one. Also, iMac G5 is sooner rather than later, IMHO. IBM 970 is the future- and I'm relatively certain that Apple wants to be rid of Moto as much as we do. A 167Mhz bus simply does not hack it when it comes to Apple's "leading edge" image.

    Just my .02

Amen to that. The only thing that wouldn't surprise me is if Motorola adds an on die memory controller to the G4, that supports DDR sdram and leaves the MPX Frontside bus alone. Maybe bump the FSB to 200MHz. They should be able to accomplish this, since the L3 cache in the MPC 7455 was DDR sram, so the knowledge is there.

I'm not counting on a MPC7457-RM for a very long time.

If I had a vote at Apple, all computers would be using a G5 as soon as humanly possible. Then wait for Motorola to catch up if they can.

I guess I'm an optimist. I still keep waiting for the alliance/agreements between Motorola, STMicroelectronics and Phillips to show signs of a renaissance for Motorola's cpu's.\
