If I wanted to use the F8 key on my keyboard to launch Safari, for example, how would I go about doing that? Everytime I try in the Keyboard preference, it doesn't work. I could launch programs like this in OS 9.

You may be able to find an app that will do that on Version Tracker. Search around for keyboard mapping. Search version tracker or google it.

You need Keyboard Maestro. It does what you want to do and much more.

Awww, geez. This is not good. You would think something like this would be built into OS X ... not third party. Thanks for your help though!
