Switching from PC's to UNIX

I have a 10+ year PC helpdesk background.

How can I get from THAT..to a job using my powerbook and unix?

What do I need to read and learn, and once I do that how do I find a job, most likely an entry level one. Where do I look and what do I look for?

I'm sick of PC's and I'm sick of doing helpdesk.

I want to use my powerbook with unix and develop and maybe make a living that way but answering stupid PC (L)user calls is all I know. I mean there's got ot be more to life than "...you mean you changed your password on friday and now it's monday and you forgot it?..."

Preferebly I'd like to be able to do work from home and just mail it in...

Time's yours...

I think that by "PC" you mean "Windows". Keep in mind that the two terms are not exactly interchangeable.

Beyond that, I can't help you much. If I'm not careful, I may be facing the same situation in a few years.
