I've been able to *taste* in dreams, but never smell, unless the smell was actually in my room.

However, I've been able to taste a smell, which I assume is a common occurance if the oder is strong enough.

I only remember a smell it is important to the dream in some way. Also familiar smells sometimes pop into my dreams. My Grandparents house for example, has a distinctive warm cozy smell to it. But is rare for me to have smells in my dream. I do have lots of color though.

I thought as a general rule that more men dream in black and white than females. I could be wrong, psychology fun facts are starting to fade. I am pretty positive I dream in color, but I could be wrong, because if I'm watching a black and white movie, after a couple min I won't notice anymore.

I never notice when a black and white movie goes color or vise versa. I just watched clerks a couple days ago and I am pretty sure it was in black and white, but I can't remember. It may have been parts in color and parts in black and white.

I'm a guy, and I dream in 24bit color. And Clerks is all in B&W.

I know I do dream in color. Just one example: I seperated the red cards from the black in a pack of cards. I don't remember why though. I think something bad would have happened if I touched a black card.

EDIT: Don't think I am crazy. I have my share of perfectly sane dreams too.

Mine are all crazy. Sometimes I wake up wondering if I'm still sane. Then I realize that I still hate that "I just woke up and haven't brushed my teeth yet" feeling and figure everything's still good.

I pretty much get everything in my dreams- smell, touch, taste, all of it. Just the other day I dreamt I was in my hometown in Mass. I could smell the lilac.

That's a smell I miss. I like the jasmine smell of LA, though.

I always dream in colour. very vivid.

I might add, I also have the ability to imagine looking up at the the sun so intensely in my dreams that it not only wakes me up, but i end up with distinct spots in my retinas.

They can last for a couple of minutes or more.

I'd be curious how that works. I would doubt that your rods and cones adjust to what you are imagining but maybe. Weird huh?

I don't think dreams are very symbolic. I think they are just a sorting/filing of information your brain has to deal with. I forget what school of thought that is but I have just had some dreams that seem to meaningless or odd.

I don't remember dreams often, but when I do, I normally remember them pretty well. I seem to be remembering more and more dreams as I get older though.

There are a few re-occuring dreams I have, but not in the 'same dream replayed' sense. In some, I'll literally go back into a dream at the same point I left off, even though it might be weeks later. In others, time is the 'same' as 'here'. I'll go back and the people will greet me with "Wow, where have you been? I haven't seen you in _x_", which is the time that's passed between having that dream.

Of course, I remember everyone's names, the neighborhood, etc...and will promptly forget when I wake no matter how hard I try.

Sometimes I get confused on whether my dreams or my 'real life' is my base.

[edit:] Oh yeah, and I've always dreamed in color and have all my senses functioning properly. I can't even imagine it being any other way.

    I don't dream either.

Well I do I assume, but I don't remember them at all. \

It's kind of disturbing actually. Shouldn't I know that I dream and occasionally remember them?

It is impossible to smell in a dream, to manufacture a smell. You can incorporate smells from the conscious world, though.

Doesn't it normally depends on when you wake up (where in the sleep cycle you are?)? If you are in a good pattern you may not wake up and interrupt them. Or by my theory since dreams mean nothing then your sorting doesn't take place visually or perhaps don't need to be sorted.

Everyone dreams Remembering them is hard!
