People have heard me complaing that Bush is not especially conservative. However when you read someone like Thomas Sowell, who I consider a true conservative, you begin to see what Bush is not.

Take a look and share...

Sowell's platform

I don't know if it's unrealistic but certainly it could never be realized.

Of course it is unrealistic. That piece was simply an "If I ran the world..." kind of piece. He is one of the most gifted economists of our time. He understands free market capitalism... but I do wonder about his free-trade stance.

I disagree. In 1800, I think the founding fathers would have laughed, belched, and never would have believed that the state of the union would be the way it is today. Nowadays, the only thing that keeps things the way they are is the defeatist attitute that government is on this unalterable course to hell.

There are third party candidates. vote for them in protest. Nothing will happen overnight, but things will change if we want them to.

Anyway, I really like his message about cutting back subsidies and paying congressmen well.

Looking at the rest of Sowell's 'platform', I'd have expected him to mention the use of budget surpluses to pay off national debt.

"Otherwise, they and their staffs would be spending most of their time doing things to get re-elected"

I wonder what those things would be, actually serving their country? He obviously doesn't really believe in democracy.

    (Neither do I, of course)

Homer: America, take a good look at your beloved candidates.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ They're nothing but hideous space reptiles. _[unmasks them]

    _ _ _ _ _ _ [audience gasps in terror]

_Kodos: _It's true, we are aliens. But what are you going to do about it?

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ It's a two-party system; you have to vote for one of us.

    _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [audientce murmurs]

    _Man1: He's right, this is a two-party system.

    _Man2: Well, I believe I'll vote for a third-party candidate.

_Kang: Go ahead, throw your vote away!
