A Very Mac-like PC
It's been a while since the last slugfest, err, discussion about what kind of new Mac Apple should build next. I thought this article was inspiring. I want one with a G5!

Cheap (looking) Little Metal Box.
Screed ...and it's not Mac-like if it doesn't run OS X.

Not so! If it ran OS X it would be a Mac, not just Mac-like.
True, this PC might be a little cheap looking, and Apple would do a better job. Yet, I'd take a Mac that looked like that. It takes up less shelf or desk space (area) than my Beige G3 desktop. If Apple doesn't make something with a low profile, I might have to update the Beige G3 with a 750 GX, which is 1 GHz and a 1 MB L2 cache from PowerLogix. I use the Beige G3 desktops in two places with just a little over 9 inches of head room. For six years or so, the Macs have been taller than that. Oops! Except for the cube, but it takes more clearance because of the CD-ROM drive on top.
A local GPS/NAV shop stocks them and I've installed 3 of them this year.
Dobby.
Full article.
I think I saw where it was quite expensive though.
Need to check the site.
Moving to General Discussion.
They pack a lot of power for such a small box, and seriously they are the best looking PC if you had to buy a PC and make one on your own in the market.
I have a Radeon 9800Pro, AMD 2400+, 120gig HD, and 1gig of ram; all running from a small box.
I use it for gaming.
Apple could make a smaller and better looking version of that Shuttle, slap a 970fx G5 in it and price it at $999. Why the hell don't they do that?
and it's great for gaming

I wonder when the most hard-headed Apple zealots get the fact that these relatively good-looking 700$ boxes with excellent 3D performance are not an exception but rather the *rule* in PC land.
Props to TrunksGoku... well balanced parts, classic case, that plastic finish fits especially well with Apple displays.

err... do you even use CDs? That shuttle is lacking a CD drive.
Also I hope that the image being displayed is of a Mac... not the shuttle.
Edit #2: Oh... I almost forgot. Welcome to AI! It is good to see more people planning to switch. When you want to setup that RedHat box give me a shout with any questions.
Edit #3: I am not on the ball today... grrr....
