loss of quality with iMovie 3 when making a DVD

I experience loss of quality when I make a DVD from video footage in my miniDV camcoder. The rendered movie doesn't look as good as the original import. I choose the target as DVD-NTSC in preferences. Should I try leaving it as original DV and see if it will work? I wanted to know before starting the damn rendering process which takes a few hours.

when you export from imovie, go to file>export>quicktime movie>full quality dv. everything should look fine.

If you don't save it as DV, then it will lose a little quality...

If you are burning a "playable" DVD (for a DVD player) ... it encodes as mpeg and is compressed (not full DV) ... but that's the only way to make a "generic" DVD.

If you're just saving it to a DVD to playback on your computer, then feel free to save it as the origional DV format.

iMovie 3 was a bag of junk anyway. I had all sorts of problems using it. Everything from popping noises in the audio to failure to render slowed down sequences when exporting. Get iMovie 4 if you possibly can.
