Hello everyone. I just noticed on my iMac that the volume and brightness display is now missing when I increase the brightness or volume. Does anyone know what I did or how I can get the display back? Your help would be awesome. Thanks.
Press and hold the function key then press F2. If yourbrightness display shows up you have the " Use the F1-F12 keys for custom actions" selected in the keyboard section of your System Preferences. Uncheck it for the default settings.
That's not what tree means, I don't think. It still is adjusting the volume and the brightness, it's just not showing the bezel. And there is no function key on an iMac, it's only on the portables.
As far as how to fix it, I'd try a repair permissions and a restart. It seems like it can't access the bezel images, which are in a system folder somewhere (I forget at the moment), and you can't move them. If those two remedies don't work, I don't know what to tell ya.
