Firewire will not speed drives up. The limitation is in the drives themselves. ATA has BEEN faster than FW for years so FW Native drives are a Solution looking for a Problem.

Firewire bridges are FUGLY. They add to the overall cost AND slow down drive speeds and response time. It's true. See link below for onboard vs. various drive enclosures.

You can't get internal ATA-firewire bridges.

As far as native ATA vs. Firewire goes...

With ATA you can only have 2 devices per channel. With Firewire you can have 64 (63 not including the computer).

    Firewire sets IDs automatically.

Firewire can supply power to lowish power devices, negating the need for a fugly molex connector.

Firewire is a rounded cable WITH electromagnetic sheilding (less error correction = more speed).

    Firewire is hot swappable.

Plus other stuff technical people know that I don't.
