Future Power Mac User Has Question About RAM

Hey guys. I'm planning on buying the next updated power mac, be it a newer dual 2.4 ghz or still the same dual 2 ghz. I was going to wait for the 3 ghz, but that's too far away.

I'm not going to pay for extra RAM that apple charges.

I was wondering if you guys could tell me where I could find cheap apple compatible RAM sticks (I'm fairly new to the whole upgrading thing) and if you could tell me the difficulty of upgrading the RAM. I want to upgrade from 512MB to 1.5 GB.

Thanks.

Upgrading the RAM should be a pretty easy task... I'm pretty sure that the user manual will outline how to do it.

As far as what to get, it's dependent on what speed memory they'll use in the next revision... if it's something like PC3200 DDR like the current Dual 2.0, then you can get an idea through sites such as dealram (The memory has to be installed in pairs, so you'd have to buy two 512MB sticks):

    http://dealram.com/prices/27/512MB.html

I'd say Crucial would be the best choice for price/peace of mind... usually a little more expensive than the cheapest links from Dealram, but worth the extra cost.

Sample prices in comparison to those from Dealram above

The 2 sites that we get our memory from are Crucial (www.crucial.com) and Data Memory (www.datamem.com). Both sites will walk you thru getting your memory. Never had problems with either site.
