I can't believe it: the G3 750FX (the one inside the new iBooks 2002) can be overclocked by SOFTWARE!!!!!

That is SO cool!!

An ?xlr8yourmac? reader overclocked it at 800Mhz (from 700) with no problems!

Generally I hate overclocking Macs since it's a quite difficult hardware operation and then you get a instable machine.

But in this case it seems to be quite safe and easy to do: it's even suggested by the original IBM G3750FX specifications!!!

look at: <a href="http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/archives/jun02/060402.html#S13899"; target="_blank">http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/archives/jun02/060402.html#S13899</a>;

(sorry for my bad English)

I wish the older Dual-USB iBooks were able to do this.

Really makes me want to replace my iBook/500/CD with an iBook/700/Combo instead of just installing a 40GB drive to replace the tiny 10GB that came with it. I'm oh so tempted, but I think I have to save for a PowerMac instead.

I had to scan this article briefly. Where's the fix for it resetting once you restart?

Hmm... I have developer tools installed on my PowerBook and I don't see Reggie on my computer.

(I was just looking to see if I had it. I know I can't overclock this computer like that.)

This makes me want an ibook 700. It's really too bad that you have to do it every restart. I wonder if you can write an applescript to do this for you on restart? <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Someone will probably make a StartupItem for it.

CHUD Tools like Reggie are available here:

Hmm.... I may just hav to buy one of these things.

If I donvince my parents to pay some of my insurance, I'll have $2000 at least to put into a new computer.

    It'll be an entry-level PM

    a highest-level iMac

    or largescreen iBook

This assumes that the PMs and iMac get updated. If the lowest PM is a 1 GHz machine, that baby's mine. Maybe the same for an iMac.
